Get started is as easy 123, the most important step is to belong to a CAMS affiliated club that can help you make your dream a reality. Below are the steps and links to forms to get you straight on track, however first it is good to get an idea of what different events are about :
Supersprints in NSW are conducted on circuits such as Eastern Creek, Oran Park and Wakefield Park with a limited number of cars on the track at the same time. Typically, competitors run a series of three flying laps, with the fastest lap determining the result. Grouped in classes, competing vehicles range from standard road registered cars to very fast sport sedans and open wheelers.
Supersprints teach drivers the technique of consistent fast laps and the analysis of track time in traffic.
Hillclimbs in NSW, a traditional form of the sport conducted for more than 70 years in Australia, pit cars and drivers against challenging uphill courses with varying corners and gradients. Cars run individually, with drivers aiming for the fastest time. Hillclimbs are run at Eastern Creek, Wakefield Park and Mount Panorama, as well as many permanent and temporary courses throughout NSW and Australia. Competing vehicles range from road registered cars to purpose built hi-tech hillclimb specials.
Hillclimbs teach drivers the technique of standing starts, qualifying and the perfect lap in addition to adapting to track conditions in amongst competition conditions.
Regularity Trials are a slightly different concept to the above but no less important in a racing driver's education. A regularity trial is run on a circuit such as Oran Park, drivers are required to nominate a lap time and then maintain it consistently during the whole event. In this type of race the replication of a lap is rewarded more than speed, it may sound simple but in reality this is a core skill that separates the ordinary driver from the talented.
Follow these three easy steps to become a competitor in any of the above type of event :
1. Club and licence
2. Car and kit
